Mongolia’s Law on Disaster Protection, passed in 2017, ushers in a new approach to disaster risk management in Mongolia, with a higher priority placed on disaster risk reduction and preparedness. The new law was developed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), with support from Mongolian Red Cross Society and IFRC Disaster Law. A member of IFRC Disaster Law was seconded to NEMA for two weeks to provide intensive legal support for the drafting of the law. Mongolian Red Cross Society, with technical support from IFRC Disaster Law, also successfully advocated for a new law recognising their auxiliary role in 2016

Mongolian Red Cross Society and IFRC Disaster Law continue to support the development of strong disaster laws in Mongolia, including resolutions implementing the Law on Disaster Protection 2017.
