In Kiribati, IFRC Disaster Law and Kiribati Red Cross Society have influenced legislative developments relating to disaster risk management. Kiribati Red Cross Society is recognised as auxiliary and key partner to the government in humanitarian activities, including disaster response.

Due to the immediate and urgent threat of climate change, IFRC Disaster Law’s work focuses on ensuring communities in Kiribati are protected by robust disaster laws and included in their development and implementation. Kiribati was one of 16 countries included in a recent study of legal preparedness for regional and international disaster assistance in the Pacific.
