Since 2009, IFRC Disaster Law has been working with Viet Nam Red Cross Society on disaster law. We have supported the adoption of several disaster laws which address (amongst other topics) international cooperation and international disaster assistance.
Viet Nam Red Cross Society plays a strong advocacy role nationally, calling for and supporting strong legal frameworks to facilitate domestic and international response to disasters. IFRC Disaster Law supports Viet Nam Red Cross Society, in partnership with the National Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control (NCDPC), to develop dissemination modules and materials relating to the Law on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control to increase community-level awareness and promote engagement in local disaster resilience work.
IFRC Disaster Law has conducted significant research on disaster law in Vietnam, including research focusing on the domestic implementation of the AADMER Agreement and a case study on disaster risk reduction. We have also published a case study on the role of mangrove restoration in Viet Nam.
