Nepal Red Cross Society is keenly involved in disaster law. Together with IFRC Disaster Law, several disaster law studies have been conducted in Nepal including on disaster risk reduction, gender equality and sexual and gender-based violence in disasters, barriers to post-disaster shelter and International Disaster Response Law (IDRL).
Nepal Red Cross Society is a strong advocate for strengthening disaster laws and, with the support of IFRC Disaster Law, has assisted its government to develop a legally binding framework for disaster risk management. Nepal Red Cross Society is currently supporting government to bring disaster law and policy closer to the people, through its municipal risk governance work. In addition, it is providing support on the development of, and consultation on, an International Assistance Directive.
Nepal was one of the countries included in a study of legal preparedness for regional and international disaster and pandemic response in South Asia.
