Afghanistan, a country located in a region of frequent seismic activity, is highly vulnerable to natural hazards, a situation which has been worsened by years of war and internal conflict. This complex environment makes IFRC Disaster Law’s work on legal preparation for a large-scale disaster vital. We work alongside Afghan Red Crescent Society, including to strengthen its role in disaster response. Now recognised by government as a key actor in disaster response, Afghan Red Crescent Society and IFRC Disaster Law have conducted a study on the country’s International Disaster Response Laws. Our team continues to advocate for further developments in disaster law in Afghanistan and to provide technical support to authorities and the National Society in this area.
Afghanistan was one of the countries included in a study of legal preparedness for regional and international disaster and pandemic response in South Asia.
