In Tajikistan, IFRC Disaster Law will pilot the new Checklist on Law and Disaster Preparedness and Response to identify legal and institutional gaps and areas needing further strengthening. To further advocate for an effective disaster risk management governance system, IFRC Disaster Law is actively supporting disaster response drills and simulation exercises and advocating for the need of stronger legal frameworks for disaster preparedness, response, and risk reduction.
We are also providing technical assistance to the Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan and the government in drafting new legal instruments. IFRC Disaster Law will support the setting up of a new standing inter-governmental disaster risk management working group aimed at guiding and facilitating the development and implementation processes of these instruments. To this end, IFRC Disaster Law works closely with the Rapid Emergency Assessment and Coordination Team (REACT) in Tajikistan.
