In 2009, the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, with support from IFRC Disaster Law, commissioned a report entitled International Disaster Response Law (IDRL) in Sierra Leone. The report analyses Sierra Leone’s existing legal and policy frameworks for addressing the common issues related to receiving international disaster assistance.

Additionally, in 2019, the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, ECOWAS and IFRC Disaster Law conducted a national workshop, Localization of Aid for an Effective Disaster Management, to enhance awareness among national authorities on the tools available to capacitate national actors in legal preparedness in disaster management. An outcome of the workshop was a roadmap to guide the next steps, particularly the need to review the disaster risk management bill with the support of Red Cross.

In 2022, as part of the global law and recovery study, IFRC Disaster Law is currently undertaking a study on the role of law in disaster recovery in Sierra Leone.
