Disaster recovery

Disaster law is a rapidly developing field with a growing body of research and guidance documents, and disaster recovery is a newer area of work for disaster law experts. IFRC Disaster Law’s work in this area is focused on researching the legal dimensions of disaster recovery, in order to develop recommendations for domestic law and policy makers.

In 2020, we completed a Literature Review and in 2023, our synthesis report which analysed how laws, policies and plans have been used to support the recovery from recent, major disasters in 10 countries, was completed.   The report, Laws, Policies and Plans for Disaster Recovery: Multi-Country Synthesis Report, found that disaster recovery is often overlooked in domestic disaster laws, policies and plans.
