The Permanent Missions of Croatia, Colombia and Italy, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent
Societies are pleased to announce the Expert Meeting on the Future of the ILC’s Draft Articles on the Protection of
Persons in the Event of Disasters. This meeting will convene experts from governments, international organizations,
academia and civil society for a timely discussion on the future of the ILC’s Draft Articles ahead of the 78th session of the
United Nations General Assembly.
The Expert Meeting will include:
• a Stakeholder Roundtable permitting practitioners from around the world to share their views on the potential
practical impacts of a new universal instrument
• an Expert Panel featuring legal experts from academia and the humanitarian sector providing analysis on the
content of the Draft Articles
• a presentation on The Way Forward from the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs, Codification Division
• Closing remarks presented by Dr. Eduardo Valencia-Ospina, Special Rapporteur on the ‘Protection of Persons in
the Event of Disasters’ and Former ILC Member
