Meeting with ODPM and partners to discuss advancing the new CDM law and policy in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) in Trinidad and Tobago is working towards the development of a new Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) law and policy that will be informed by the recommendations of a legislative gap analysis conducted with the technical support of IFRC Disaster Law and Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society.

The legislative gap analysis, completed in 2021, utilizes IFRC’s benchmarking tools, namely the IDRL Checklist, the Checklist on Law and Disaster Risk Reduction and the Checklist on Law and Disaster Preparedness and Response to identify gaps and propose recommendations for the strengthening of Trinidad and Tobago’s disaster management framework.

In 2022, this process reached a critical stage, where the drafting of the CDM policy is nearing completion and will soon go to Cabinet for approval. Once approved, it will inform the development of the new Draft CDM Bill.
