IFRC Disaster Law is orgnising two workshops on legislative advocacy and climate resilience in Island States in the Seychelles

In order to ensure that people and communities affected by disaster and climate risks receive appropriate support in a timely manner, effective legal and policy frameworks are required. This is even more relevant for small island states where the impact of climate change associated risks is higher.

To this end, with the support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and PIROI , and with the Seychelles Red Cross Society as host, IFRC Disaster Law is organizing two workshops in the Seychelles: a workshop on Disaster Law and Legislative Advocacy in Islands States (29 – 30 August 2022) and a workshop on Enhancing Climate Resilience in Island States through Disaster Law (31 August – 2 September 2022).

The first workshop has been designed specifically for National Societies from across the Indian Ocean, Asia Pacific, and Caribbean regions, with the aim of strengthening their capacity in legislative advocacy.

The second workshop will bring together these Island State National Societies, government representatives, regional and international organizations to exchange ideas and experiences on how disaster related laws and policies can be strengthened in their respective countries and regions to ensure no one is left behind.
