Launch of new IDRL project in Colombia

Agreement has been reached for the launch of a new project by the Colombian Red Cross Society and the IFRC to support the Government of Colombia to examine its legal preparedness for international disaster assistance.

“It is time to modernize and consolidate Colombia’s legal framework, taking into account international norms for disaster response,” noted Dr. Luz Amanda Pulido, Director of the Direction of Risk Management of the National System for Disaster Prevention and Response.

This project will include a legal mapping exercise, consultations with national and international stakeholders and the development specific recommendations for strenghthening current legal and institutional arrangemens for receiving external assistance.

This project is just one of several being discussed with member states of the the Andean Committee for the Prevention and Response to Disasters (CAPRADE), in line with its Andean Strategy for Disaster Preparedness and Response which aims to “Contribute to risks reduction and to minimize the impact of disasters by assisting in the sustainable development of all countries of the Andean sub region through institutional reinforcement and the establishment of common politics, strategies, programs, and sub programs; sharing of experiences; creation of networks; and the improvement of mutual collaboration in situation of disasters.”
