On 19-21 October, disaster management authorities from Caribbean states joined representatives from National Red Cross Societies, the United Nations, the Caribbean Disaster Management Agency, the Organization of American States, the Association of Caribbean States, and local NGOS, for the first Caribbean workshop on IDRL.
This event was co-hosted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - International Disaster Response Laws, Rules and Principles (IDRL) Programme, the Barbados Red Cross Society and the United Nations Office for the Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs.
The workshop aimed to develop a deeper understanding among representatives of English-speaking Caribbean governments, National Red Cross Societies and regional and sub-regional organizations of the legal issues arising during international disaster relief operations and the applicable legal framework, as well as to provide a forum for dialogue on disaster law themes in preparation for the 31st International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
