New IDRL delegate for Africa to take up post; interns moving on

The IFRC is pleased to welcome Sanne Boswijk, who will take up the post of IFRC IDRL Delegate for Africa, based in Johannesburg. Boswijk is a Dutch lawyer, who previously served as legal advisor for the Netherlands Red Cross where she provided advice and training on international humanitarian law. Over the last several years, Boswijk has also led the NRC’s work on IDRL, including a country study of the legal framework for receiving international disaster assistance in the Netherlands and contributions to the IFRC’s draft “Manual for National Societies on Legislative Advocacy concerning Disaster Management and Health Emergencies.”

As IDRL Delegate for Africa, Boswijk will be responsible for assisting National Societies throughout sub-Saharan Africa to advise their governments on disaster law and to build their own capacity and knowledge in this area.

Boswijk will begin her work in Johannesburg in early January.

The IFRC would also like to take this opportunity to thank Audrey Baëté, Alessandra Lavaccara and Georgina Marina, who are coming to the end of their internships with the IDRL Programme in Geneva. These talented lawyers have advanced both the programme’s research and its communications (including this newsletter) and we wish them all the best as their careers unfold.
