On February 12-13, 2008, the Norwegian Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning convened civil protection representatives from six Nordic states to exchange experiences and views on mechanisms for requesting, receiving and utilizing foreign resources in national emergency management. Participants reported that parallel processes were currently underway in their countries to examine their preparedness for these issues.
Mads Harlem, Legal Advisor for the Norwegian Red Cross (second from the right in the photo to the right), was invited to present to the group about the IDRL Guidelines and the conclusions of the 30th International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent on disaster relief regulation.
Participants discussed a number of potential future projects, including developing of training courses on improving “host nation support” practices.
