In August 2017 and November 2017, the Sudanese Red Crescent (SRC) with support of the IFRC Disaster Law trained National Society staff and state public officials on International Disaster Response Law (IDRL) and disaster risk reduction. With support from IFRC Disaster Law, the Sudanese Red Crescent prepared a report, entitled International Disaster Response Law (IDRL) in Sudan, which evaluates the institutional and legal framework for international disaster relief assistance in Sudan.
A draft of the report was presented to academic stakeholders, private sector actors, and government agencies at a workshop held in Khartoum in April 2018. Attendees included the National Council on Civil Defence, which is one of the key government agencies tasked with disaster management. The workshop provided a platform for discussions on the key recommendations of the report as well as the possible way forward for the improvement of the disaster management legal and institutional framework in Sudan. The final report was published in 2019.
