The IFRC's Disaster Law Programme wishes to congratulate Giovanni Sciaccaluga for winning the 2015 international and comparative disaster law essay contest. This essay contest aims to stimulate creative thinking and analysis about disaster law in a comparative and/or international perspective.

The first annual contest, held in 2015, drew submissions from 12 countries. The winning essay was titled, Climate change related disasters and human displacement: towards an effective management system (2015). The 2015 contest was open only to students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at any university (anywhere in the world) at the time of submission. Essays examined any issue related to law and disasters due to natural hazards, doing so either from a comparative or an international law perspective, or both.
