IFRC Disaster Law’s collaboration with the Jordan Red Crescent Society (JRCS) in 2025 was anchored by the hosting of the first MENA regional workshop on disaster risk governance and the auxiliary role of National Societies, held in Amman, Jordan from 9-10 December 2025, which JRCS co-organized with IFRC.
The workshop brought together 17 participants representing 10 National Societies—a milestone as the first event to collectively engage multiple MENA National Societies on these thematics in a single forum. The workshop provided a platform to discuss disaster law development at national, regional, and international levels, and to advance the auxiliary role of National Societies. Key objectives included deepening understanding of the auxiliary role and its practical applications, building capacity for legislative and policy advocacy, positioning National Societies as active actors in disaster risk governance, and equipping focal points to lead advocacy efforts on the PPED treaty and relevant regional and national instruments.
